About the Bridgehouse Scholarship Program

The Bridgehouse Scholarship Program is designed to educate young people between 18 and 22 years of age about the world of investing and to introduce the personality traits that are outlined in a typical Know-Your-Client (KYC) form—an information form you need to fill out to open an investment account. The Program gives students the opportunity to win one of ten $2,000 scholarships and includes a multiple-choice money personality quiz with an essay-based question.

In February 2010, the Canadian government launched a task force to look into the financial literacy of Canadians. The Task Force on Financial Literacy released its findings in February 2011 in a report entitled, Canadians and Their Money. The report makes recommendations on how to improve financial literacy of all Canadians.

The Bridgehouse Scholarship Program was created in response to the recommendations of the Task Force. The purpose of the Program is to promote investor knowledge and financial responsibility, especially among younger Canadians, and to provide financial assistance for students pursuing post-secondary education.

The Bridgehouse Scholarship Program, launched in 2012, was recognized at the Morningstar Awards as the winner of the IFIC Investor Education Award. The Program is run annually each spring.

The questions and profiles were developed by the Brandes Institute, a research engine dedicated to developing ideas and research that expand the investment community’s understanding of market behavior and portfolio management.
